Does anyone know if Tara O. still posts to the newsgroups? I wanted to ask
her about Boxer rescue. An Elder Statesman was rescued in Brooklyn who looks like he might be a sweetie (looks like a Boxer/AmStaff mix) and I wanted to pump her for resources for placing this guy. Hope you're all doing well!! Tara (the NYC one) |

The only resource I have for NY is Second Chance Boxer Rescue which serves all of the New England states but specializes in NY, NJ & PA. They pretty much have the monopoly on Boxer rescue along the upper half of the eastern seaboard so I'd recommend emailing them as their network is huge. If they can't help, or won't take a mix, they'd be better qualified to give you another referral than I would as I really don't have occasion to talk with anyone up there. -- Tara (the SC one) |

Ignore my ping in .behavior (I tried like hell to avoid going in there) and thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I'm good. Getting into all kinds of different things. Got totally stuck in Trainer burnout for a looooong time. Have been renewing my enthusiasm by volunteering and working with some national campaigns. Less hands on stuff, but more interesting to me for now. That's why I've pretty much lost all of my local rescue contacts.....I totally burned out on that stuff years ago. news:KzbZf.1869$4G4.1665@trndny06... Glad to hear you're keeping busy! Ignore my ping in .behavior (I tried like hell to avoid going in there) and thanks for getting back to me so quickly! No problem, it was good to see a post from you. I'm good. Getting into all kinds of different things. Got totally stuck in Trainer burnout for a looooong time. I wouldn't want to be a trainer, assuming I had the qualifications (which I don't), because there are just too many contrary people out there that are hard to deal with. I've heard alot of trainers talking about an increase in aggressive (both dog & people) class dogs as well. We just finished a CGC class and are currently in beginner's agility classes. We're excited about attending a working tracking seminar in June as well so lots of new things to learn, teach & keep busy with. Have been renewing my enthusiasm by volunteering and working with some national campaigns. Less hands on stuff, but more interesting to me for now. That's why I've pretty much lost all of my local rescue contacts.....I totally burned out on that stuff years ago. It happens alot. I resigned from the rescue I ran when I found out my partners were up to no good behind my back. Most of my friends and volunteers also left to start a different Boxer rescue during the big fall-out. Now I'm just an occasional contact and while I regret not doing anything to really help, knowing the huge need, I'm not ready to abandon so much of my life for the sake of doing rescue again...yet. Maybe once Amie is in high school. THANKS! I'll contact them immediately. I'm a dunce for not giving you the url: http://www.secondchanceboxer.com/ -- Tara |
