It makes me think of teenagers, you can’t gain the respect of a
teenager by jumping in bossing them around, it makes them oppose you.

I've found kicking the **** out of them works just as well, and is faster.

If you treat them with love and understanding and patience they are
much more likely to trust, love and respect your authority.

Or, they may decide you are a doormat, and walk all over you.
