Do you think dogs really hate staying at a kennel? We have put our dog
in a kennel while on vac since she was 6 mo old and does not really seem
to suffer.
Always wonder though if she cries etc. She looks good when we pick her
up but feel so sad when I have to drop her off.

It sounds as if you have a well adjusted dog. I never leave mine in
Kennels, because Reka will not eat. Not once. Every Kennel i ever
boarded her in, says she did not do well, and suggested that I hire a
house sitter. I'm home with Reka 24/7. She expects me to be there, and
not be abandoned. (Separation anxiety thing going) Now my new puppy is
doing the same thing. I doubt he'd ever miss a meal. But he howls the
entire time he's left in a kennel. He's quiet as a church mouse all the
rest of the time.

I know of many dogs perfectly content to be in a kennel. Mine are not. I
envy those who can drive off and leave their dogs, but I am not willing
to do the homework and leave my dogs when I am at home to help them fix
their separation anxiety. I guess it's because I'm equally (or more)
afflicted with Separation anxiety when away from them myself.

Some dogs do great in kennels, and how they look and seem when picked
up (and the days right after) are a good indication of how well they
handled it. Kennels vary so widely that what is good for one may not
be good for another. A good kennel will give you a food and
elimination report, noting anything out of the ordinary as well. One
thing I don't like about some kennels, is that some don't have anyone
on the premises overnight.

Dogs pick up on our moods easily, so don't act too sad when leaving
her.

I have live-in petsitters. With 4(or maybe even 5) pets, it's more
economical and someone is here with them overnight and varying times
during the day. The dogs have their regular beds, food, surroundings
and I don't have to wait a day to pick them up - they're here when I
get home.
