Hi all,
I would love to hear your opinions about this product, good or bad. I am looking for something to keep the flies from biting my dog's ears and this product has popped up. If you could include how much of the ointment you used, duration, effectiveness, etc I would really appreciate it!!! Thanks in advance! P. |

SWAT works great.....just be prepared for a mess. It's bubblegum colored,
heavy like axle grease and when you put it on ears the dog WILL shake it's head and stuff will fly...............but, flies die from contact, it helps heal flyblown ears and is soothing. It's wonderfully effective but needs renewed as soon as it gets coated with too much dirt to stop the flies. For dogs confined outdoors with no other way to escape fly torture, it works better than anything else. Sprays are too light and can get in eyes, mouths and food too easily. good luck. wrote in message oups.com... Hi all, I would love to hear your opinions about this product, good or bad. Good Heavens, who taught you to use Swat? A bricklayer? First, Swat is also available in a clear formula, but the bright pink is sometimes handy when you want to know where you've already dabbed. Second, it's not necessary to apply the thick, goopy stuff with a trowel. I use a washcloth (a paper towel or your fingers work, too), pick up a *small* amount of Swat, and smooth it over whatever bits of horse (or dog) I want to repel flies. Admittedly, I'd apply a thicker layer over open wounds, but even so a little dab'll do ya. I use Swat on my horse's head all summer long. I bought a new jar last year, and still have about 80% left. |

True, a trowel is a bit heavy, but when I was dealing with a very, very
happy young dog (20+ years ago), it was easier just to glop it on rather than fight her. She eventually matured into a wonderfully calm, well trained dog, but oh she could sling that stuff around! However, even in controlled applications, it got dirty and therefore useless in fairly short order and on a few occasions, a thick layer kept the flies from penetrating to the blood/scabs. I also used in on horses and have great respect for its efficacy. I still firmly believe that a good layer is better than a thin smear but I will acknowledge that in an attempt to warn of the possible messiness that my story was in itself a bit sloppy! I did NOT know that it is also available in a clear formula. That's good news. Oh, and yes, a bricklayer, my grandfather, did teach me the proper use of a trowel! "Mary Healey" wrote in message .4...
