How long after a dog is in heat, should you wait to spay her?

Cali was 6 months old when I first scheduled her spaying. After a week of
nightmares in which Cali died, I cancelled the surgery. I rescheduled for
the next month and then she started having some weird symptoms so I called
the vet. They thought it sounded like she was in heat though I saw no
blood. They refused to do the spaying for another 2 months. Anyway, that
puts it in 2 weeks but today I noticed Cali is bleeding. I assume that she
is really in heat this time so I have to call the vet to reschedule once
again. Am I going to be made to wait another 2 months? Is this waiting
period normal? If so, why? I asked the vet why you had to wait but they
didn't give me a sensible answer.

My vet required that I wait two months after my girl's first cycle. She
is a holistic vet, for what that's worth. Shortly after the surgery she
had a false pregnancy, which was quite a surprise to me. She lactated
for quite sometime.

I don't have an answer for you -- my last dog was pg when she was
spayed (a stray I'd found, about 1 year old).

I do wonder, though, why you don't change vets? Haven't you said
before that you don't like the responses you get when you ask
questions?

vet techs are nice (they give treats!)

I guess I'm lucky I've never lived anywhere where good vets were so
hard to come by. I did have one area where I'd drive about 45 minutes
to get to my preferred vet, though decent ones were closer.

Has your preferred vet given you any idea how long you will be
wait-listed?

Having a vet I'm comfortable with is very important to me. If I don't
get an answer I understand/accept, I will ask for clarification.

the waiting period is normal, if a dog is in heat we wait 3 months
after to book them in for spey.

they said a year or so when I first asked. the time should be up soon if it
doesn't go much passed their estimation

the vet is not accepting new patients. there is a wait list for people who
want to be a new patient when the vet has openings. I guess they are just
too busy right now with their current patients
