I have tried to post with good faith in this group. Some people have
been decent and even kind. Mostly however the posts are attacking
toward me. Why, because I know Jerry Howe personally. It appears that
for a group who say's they kill-file him, the fact is they are obsessed
with hate for him. And that seems to be much of the focus here. I can
not post without being called a groupie. I love my life and I was
enjoying some of the interaction with the group. It has become
wearisome. Since I will not resort to attacking people, the way Jerry
does as that is not my style. I was a therapist before I became
disabled with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I can see how a person could
get into personal attacks the way many people have responded to me.
So I will see if this is a group of adults who wish to dialogue about
dogs and behavior, or is it a place where people take out their
aggressions. If this is the case, you will not be hearing from me much
longer. The Acacia trees are in bloom and walking in the forest with
that intoxicating smell made me wonder what you people get out of all
this attacking and defensiveness. I prefer the trees to people. That is
why I live here. People have done nothing but bring us to the brink of
destruction of all life. And this group is more proof of that. While
swinging on a five hundred year old tree that someone had put a swing
on, I sat there and looked at the sunset and the harmony around me with
the swaying trees in the wind. And of course the Acacia in the air
making the place feel like Heaven on Earth. Then to come home to these
ugly posts to me, it makes me wonder what has happened to people. Is
there any hope for humanity. I do not think so. Like Leonard Cohen
said" Everyone is walking around like their father or their dog just
Died." "The ship is sinking, the captain lied.'
"Everybody knows the party's over, every body knows it's-now or
never.""The naked man and woman is just a shining artifact of the
past."
And what are people doing? Fighting in Iraq and in Darfore an and
and...
Plus what is this group doing. Fighting. I am glad that if the
scientists are right and we have garbaged ourselves to death and that
it is the end of our resources in the next decade, I am glad that I
have birds and trees and deer for friends, cuz people have completely
lost their way and are taking all the rest of life with them until
every tree is dead and they realize they can not eat money.

Dear SDB,

I responded to you in another post this morning, and I would hope you have
read that before this one, but if not, forgive me for saying some things
more than once.

We are in control of our own minds. We do NOT have to respond or even to
read something we don't feel is constructive. If there is an argument
going on and you don't feel like getting into it, then just simply don't
respond to it!!!!!

Why put yourself through all that misery? You really need to develop a
thicker skin on usenet groups. It isn't constructive, you don't need the
aggravation, the stress, the misery of it. So please practice just NOT
replying when in the first place, the anger doesn't even really involve you,
but someone else altogether.

I know you feel you must defend your friend, but in truth he is a big boy
and apparently some need in him is being satisfied with all the abusive
posting and name calling, and he will just have to solve it himself. You
are getting in the middle of a fight he started and nobody is letting him
off the hook. That isn't your issue, so if you are feeling drained, it is
because you have placed yourself in a position to be drained.

The problem you are having, as I see it, is not a question of who is wrong
or right, but a matter of control. You want to control others opinions of
JH. It would be far wiser to simply stop defending or explaining for him,
and let things go the way they are going to go anyway, whether you defend
him or not. This is his battle. Believe it or not, in the past it was
me doing the defending. You may have seen the posts he dug up from 5 or 6
years ago of mine.... he means well, but his compassion is species specific,
and he is a Jekyll/Hyde kind of a guy, who has apparently done some harm to
others.

In your defense of him, you are being seen as failing to recognize their
pain. There is a middle way, and that would be to remain silent about JH,
and just post your own ideas. For your own health and well being it would
be wisest to simply practice not responding to any challenge concerning JH,
and only speak for yourself.

Let me start you off - Your dog sounds very typical of a lot of white
gsd temperaments to me. Where do you think her training limits will
be? Do you think she will be able to gain enough confidence to work
independently without direction, or will her innate temperament limit

First, this newsgroup is Not draining. It is actually more civil than
I've seen it, in five years or so.

This is the first one of your posts I've seen. I'm quite certain that no
one is knocking you because of anyone you know. However, among the
dog-related newsgroups I subscribe to, nearly everyone filters Howe And
everyone who mentions him. That way, new comers get warned, and they get
to make a choice! Get it? If you want to be read, or even seen, keep him
out of your posts.

Lynn, what in particular do you find different about white GSD's as opposed
to other colors? Is there a link to that particular color and a particular
kind of temperament?

As far as I have ever known, it was simply another color and that whites can
appear in any litter of standard color shepherds if there is genetic
tendency, but that white is not a color accepted in the regular show
ring..... it's a disqualifying color. So as a result the owners of white
GSD's began to set up their own "thing".... shows, breeding them
specifically for while coloration, etc.

I have a couple of (maybe 30 year old) books on white GSD's in my
collection.

I am curious. I don't have enough experience to know on my own.
