Maybe I have what this group is all about wrong? I thought it was a
place to throw ideas and advice around.

We do, all the time. We aren't necessarily nice to each other. They do
throw ideas around,just because they bounce off you like a medicine ball
doesn't mean others won't reach out and catch them.

It seems more like a place where the older members know it all and just
toss out what ever remarks they feel like it to the newer people.

Oh no, New people are just as capable of throwing and catching medicine
balls,and for kicks, we even toss grenades. pull the pin and toss!
