lkaboutpets.com... I have a flea problem and I was told of a discontinued product that walmart used to carry called SEVEN FLEA POWDER does anyone know of such product and if so where can I purchase this item? ..............You're talking about Sevin (carbaryl). I wouldn't use it on my pets. There's a reason you can't find it. Carbaryl is undergoing pesticide reregistration and the use of liquid/dusts on pets will most likely be cancelled. Both cats and dogs can be adversely affected by this pesticide. http://wsprs.wsu.edu/Carbaryl/Carbar..._Sum_Bayer.pdf http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/hlthef/carbaryl.html http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Con...id=oid%3A24846 ........How many and what kind of pets do you have? Treating the dog or cat is only part of the answer. I'd get Advantage and use on the animals. Wash all animal bedding once a week. Thoroughly vacuum and/or clean the carpets and get a product with an IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) to apply to the environment. IGRs are fairly nontoxic compared to Sevin and they last a long time. They don't kill the fleas directly, but keep them from moulting into adults. Flea comb your animals for a couple of weeks after the IGR is applied to cut down on adult population. Some people insist you have to treat your yard to get rid of all fleas. I don't think it's reasonable to assume you can rid your yard of fleas with squirrels/rabbits running through and perhaps neighbors with pets with fleas. buglady take out the dog before replying |

I would highly recommend you NOT using Seven as a flea powder. Many
years ago I used it on a dog that eventually died from cancer. I never had a good feeling about it when I was using it, but did so because the label said it was safe for use on dogs. Of course, I have no scientific evidence to prove it caused the cancer, but I believe that it did. diddy wrote: in thread lkaboutpets.com: "PUSHTRUCK" whittled the following words: I have a flea problem and I was told of a discontinued product that walmart used to carry called SEVEN FLEA POWDER does anyone know of such product and if so where can I purchase this item? Sevin is available in all lawn and garden shelves. The reason it was discontinued as a flea product was because the high number of SEVIN resistant fleas made it an ineffective product. It's cheaper as 7 dust instead of as flea-powder anyway ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |
