A while back (several months ago) I took my dog to the vet f because whe was
leaking when she was lying down resting. He did a whole battery of tests in cluding x-rays to make sure there were no infections or tumors. She was in perfect health. So he gave me Phenylprop (25mg) to give her 3 times a day. He gave me a 30 day supply (90 pills) and charged me almost $1.00 per pill. When I gave her that much she would vomit several times a week. So he told me to go to 1/2 (12mg) twice per day. She would still get sick but not nearly as often (not good for white carpets). I stopped after she seemingly stopping leaking. That was a month or two ago. Just yesterday she wet 3 times in less then a 24 hour period. Just to let you know I've been walking her more often. So unless I walk her every few hours (can't happen) I'm not sure what to do next. Thanx Steve |

Steve, Urinary incontinence is pretty common in bitches that have been spayed. My understanding is that the problem is lack of tone in the muscle that holds it in. This is a permanent condition. Bitches that I know who are treated with PPA are on it for life. If she were mine, I would ask if the dosage and frequency could be adjusted. You might also consider alternatives to lower the cost. You could check the catalog houses, such as Omaha Vaccine and ask if your vet would give you a prescription--some will, some won't. Or you could try a different vet. Maybe you have friends, coworkers, etc. who could recommend someone. HTH, Amy Dahl |

He was on ppa for the last 4 years of his life, and it worked out very well, actually. It was compounded special just for him, and it was very reasonable. The more he exercised, the less I found he needed. During months when he was pretty much housebound, he required more PPA than when we were out running on the ATV daily |

Ok I'll go tomorrow. BTW FosterSmith has it for .10 per pill. cheapest I
found. "diddy" wrote in message ... in thread : "sh" whittled the following words: Can "MY" doctor write a presciption for it? Your vet can. Your MD can't. It's been withdrawn from the market for human use. IOW's It's illegal in people, but fine in dogs. Human MD's cannot write scripts for animals, and vice versa |
