There's someone local who breeds them and
when I saw her with a dog at obedience classes and asked her
if her dog was a Chinook she was extremely surprised and
said that everybody looks at the dogs and assumes they're

I've been on the other end of that. A few years ago we were
at the vet with our ACD, before they were as popular and as
well known. A local shelter worker walked in with one of her
charges, who was an adorable mutt, which we admired. Her
response was "well, he's OK, but he's no Cattle Dog." I was
amazed. Now it seems everyone knows them, especially
after so many came out of the shelters after Katrina...
