Dear Group,

I would like to draw on the experience of the members of this group
surrounding a recent problem with Athena, my six yr-old German shepherd.

About six weeks ago she had a serious scratching problem with her belly
and she had lost a number of kilograms of body weight.

The vet suggested that I give her a bath using Tak-Tic and that I
immediately start her on a treatment involving Moxacef (spelling?),
Presolone (cortisone) and Vitamin B. Within two weeks the itching and
scratching came to a complete stop, the wounds (from scratching) started
to heal, her hair growth began to return and she started to slowly gain
weight.

However, a new problem surfaced its ugly head! Her hind legs became
especially weak and her coordination started to become suspect. At times
she would walk as if she were drunk. About two weeks ago we then noticed
what seemed to be a seizure after she vomitted some meat delicacies we
had given her.

A second doctor looked at the blood test results and suspected that
ehrlichiosis was at work. We started her on vibramycin and bactrimel
(both antibiotics) as well as a continuation of her vitamin B
supplements. He also suggested that we avoid milk and meat and simply
feed her chicken/turkey with spaghetti.

Although her vomitting seems to have stopped, she now has seizures more
frequently and her hinb legs are slightly better but not back to their
original form. Also, her seizures, when they do occur, seem to do so
within a few minutes after eating.

Any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated!
