multipronged approach.
Treat the area with an area spray. Treat the yard with a yard spray. Treat
the dog with K9- Advantix.

continue with regular yard/house/dog treatments, and you will beat this. It
takes all three.

frontline is good too. so is capstar

there's a big difference in price isn't there.. I thought one of those was
only available from the vet. I have tried a couple, I forget which type
though

I use frontline. The new Frontline combi, people are saying the effect
doesn't last so long , about 3 weeks. have you found that?

The important part is the multipronged approach. If fleas are in the
environment, they keep jumping on the dog. Fleas don't live on a dog. They
jump on, bite, jump off. So treating just the dog isn't enough. You must
treat the house and yard as well.

I haven't had issues with fleas for 13 years. This year, I'm teaching my
puppy tracking, which means we are in the elements. He's dragging home
fleas. He still brings themhome, but they die.
Frontline ran out weeks earlier than I expected, and I used k9-advantix,
which seems to work longer. The yard and house also get treated, but since
he's picking them up in the tracking fields, I'm simply preventing home
infestation.

Thanks for the tips! I am going to give advantix a try.

I use K9 Advantix personally, but I don't have flee problems. I have
mosquito problems. Never thought anything would attract mosquitos
better than me, until I took my dog out near a pond near dusk. I
didn't get bit more than three times, and he had over 30 bites in about
15 minutes. Works wonders on mosquitos, and I have found a few dead
fleas after training in a field, so it appears to kill them effectively
as well. I agree with the three pronged assault method though,
anything to kill as many of them as possible wherever your dog is will
be more effective than just treating the dog. You have to address the
cause of the fleas, which is typically the yard and house if it is a
recuring problem, not just one they dragged home from the vet.

I use Frontline Plus. I don't think my dog has ever had a flea.
