Rudy, 14 mo old Golden, has a strange tumor on his side (ribcage).
When I slide my hand over it, it feels like one lump, but when manipulated between my fingers, it has 2 parts to it - one larger than the other. FNA yesterday resulted in a very small amount of fluid with a bit of blood from the larger mass, and more solid stuff from the smaller mass. The mass feels very "attached", unlike a lipoma for instance. Doesn't seem to be a cyst, as we would expect that to drain upon needle insertion. Doesn't appear to be a histiocytoma - nothing on the surface, no redness, etc. And as I said, doesn't feel like a lipoma to either myself or the vet. This is a young dog with urinary incontinence (controlled by Proin) and occasional loose stools (which have thus far been attributed to Giardia and foreign object (little rubber pieces from toys - very minor). He eats well, sleeps well, is active, happy, playful and sweet as pie. Any thoughts on the above? We should have the FNA results by net Wednesday and if not conclusive (and good conclusive) we'll have to do surgery. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

Been down the mast cell route before, as well as Franklin's recent epiltheliotropic lymphoma lump, and basal cell tumors in the past, and other "sarcomas". And a whole bunch of benign lumps (like Franklin's current lipoma). I'm truly hoping for another one of the latter. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

I'm surprised though that the FNA didn't get any fat cells if it was a lipoma. Sheesh, this is way too soon after the other lump.....sometimes it just keeps happening...... hoping for the best buglady take out the dog before replying |

OTOH, I spoke to a friend who's a vet. I described the mass to her, including what came out in the needles. She thinks it sounds like a trauma site, possibly from a powerful hit. We had an "incident" 3 weeks ago, where someone "kneed" him so hard that he screamed and slumped to the ground, and could barely walk for a few minutes. I won't go into details, but needless to say that I'm not sure when I have been that angry with someone. I'm tryng to keep calm and wait for lab results, but....... -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

Did you give this guy something back so he could also possibly have an unexplained lump due to trauma? ;-) |

He was fine when we got home and the net day and such, but now I'm really wondering. I won't let him near her again, be sure of that! -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |
