Now that I've seen pictures of what appears to be Chinooks, I'm still pretty sure my first thought would be 'mutt'. So variable in type, anywhere between shepherdy looking to lab looking. I think that after you saw one in person you'd recognize another. There's variation in the head (particularly the ears) but the overall build and coloring are very consistent. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

And he's grown up to be a very composed, well-behaved dog. I can't imagine Eclipse at that age. I remember that photo well. I also remember coming home to find that Tasha had opened a five-pound bag of either flour or bread mix and strewn it all over the kitchen, and chewed up some brand-new nebulizer equipment for good measure. Boing as in you may get a pup? Maybe, if the breeding happens and a bunch of other contingencies. Be sure to take pictures of the destruction. If you didn't know what you're looking at you'd probably think "Lab X." There's someone local who breeds them and when I saw her with a dog at obedience classes and asked her if her dog was a Chinook she was extremely surprised and said that everybody looks at the dogs and assumes they're mutts. http://www.chinook.org/ It's interesting that some parts of the standard are quite specific, but almost anything goes when it comes to the ears. Lady: What kind of a dog is that? Owner: Pitbull I'd go with, "We think he's a lab mix". Speaking of lab mixes, I saw a dachshund x lab cross yesterday. And get this, the dachsie was the mother! Probably 30 lbs, rich red coat, long back, short legs, maybe a little lab-ish around the head but only if you knew what you were looking at. Very cool dog, and very into the EarthDog Fun Day events. His owner referred to him as a dachs-ador. Kathleen |

, clicked their heels and said: I'd guess there were about 60-70 Siberians there. And someone brought a cat. For what? Loose, or in a carrier? There was a RABBIT show in the next building from our flyball tournament this weekend. A girl brought one into the building, under a blanket. Yeah - now THAT'S a good idea. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

when I saw her with a dog at obedience classes and asked her if her dog was a Chinook she was extremely surprised and said that everybody looks at the dogs and assumes they're mutts. http://www.chinook.org/ I've been on the other end of that. A few years ago we were at the vet with our ACD, before they were as popular and as well known. A local shelter worker walked in with one of her charges, who was an adorable mutt, which we admired. Her response was "well, he's OK, but he's no Cattle Dog." I was amazed. Now it seems everyone knows them, especially after so many came out of the shelters after Katrina... --Glenn Lyford |
