I thought about putting "I have a Paul in my class" in the subject line, but
I refrained. I have a student that lied on the registration form. Our form asks if the dog has bitten humans or dogs. It has done both. Monday night it tried to bite my assistant. And made a good attempt to attack a Norwich terrier. Argh. I've sent the woman an email detailing the things that she will need to do if she wants to come back to class. The excuses this woman has, oy! is amazing. At least the BOD of the club is backing me on if the woman doesn't follow the rules she will be told to hit the road. And I found out from the person that she used to train with that she didn't follow their rules either. Banging my head in frustration. Beth |

People who deliberately lie, and people who just absotively refuse to "see" the problem. We had a woman who had skated all round town with her longhair GSD. She bounced to our place. Immediately wanted to do an advanced agility class. We tested her and said no. We put her in an obedience class. Good thing, since her dog is *extremely* aggressive. Well she just kept bugging us and bugging us about putting her in an agility class. We just kept telling her that she couldn't be in an agility class until her dog demonstrated the ability to control itself off leash. So she just started helping herself to the equipment. While other classes were going on. A big rule no-no. Nobody gets on agility equipment that's not enrolled in an agility class. Meanwhile, every time this dog sees another dog going at any rate of speed (i.e., any of the agility dogs), it would stand on its back legs, lunge forward, and ROAR. Oh yeah, like that's coming to our class. Um, thank you no. She finally went elsewhere. We were glad. Unfortunately she really didn't get help for her dog because she refused to see that it had a real problem. So even obedience was not really useful, and she refused the help of a behaviorist. |

I'm terrified of Rupert harming someone elses dog. I informed our obedience instructor before we even turned up at class that he can be aggressive. |

Because too many people think that if their dog isn't perfect it reflects badly on them. Besides, they love the dog and how could they possibly love a dog that isn't perfect? |

Because too many people think that if their dog isn't perfect it reflects badly on them. Besides, they love the dog and how could they possibly love a dog that isn't perfect? I hate that attitude in people and dogs. Since when is it okay to imply that imperfect is unacceptable and unloveable? My kids have problems, my dogs have problems, I have problems... I have never met a perfect anything or anyone. I have also never met (personally, though I have my suspicions as to some I have heard of but not met) anything or anyone who was unworthy of love. So, yeah, I really think it sucks that people will put other dogs at risk by not wanting to face or announce that their dog is aggressive. And I also think it really sucks that those same people are implying with their actions that their beloved pet would somehow be less loved and less worthy if they were taken as they were instead of idealized. -- Paula "Anyway, other people are weird, but sometimes they have candy, so it's best to try to get along with them." Marcel has a little girl who shows all signs of being able to pick up on the advantages of wrapping a daddy around your little finger.
