Default Voting for Vegetables

When I went to one of the kindergarten classes at work today, I saw
that each desk had an "I Voted" poster on it. I told them that I had
voted today, too, and asked who they had voted for. It was explained
to me that they had voted for vegetables and carrots had won as the
favorite. I said that I hadn't been voting for vegetables, but then I
had to add, "Actually, come to think of it..." The kids looked at me
like they could hear the sound of chirping crickets, but at least the
teacher and the mom who was helping out in the class laughed.

I vote for this as the best political story of 2006.
Campaign slogan, bumper stickers, buttons and t-shirts for the next

Send all royalties to Paula and the kindergarten class.

By a nice coincidence, my favorite vegetable played a walk-on part in
my election day. I spent almost 16 hours yesterday at my local
elementary school as a poll worker. Every time I went from the gym,
where the polling place was, to the cafeteria or rest room, I passed a
small table that had a little plastic bell pepper and a

Move along. Nothing to see here. It was going to be a long and not
very interesting anecdote about red peppers. When I got bored even
trying to write it, I hit Send instead of Delete. Obviously, my brane
is still mush from the ultra-long day yesterday (got home at midnight,
after 18 hours work, including a two-hour round trip to election
headquarters to turn in supplies and results).

At the polling place I go to, you get a little sticker that says "I
Voted," and you are encouraged to stick it on your chest to encourage
others to do the same. Peer pressure, you know.

Sadly, the design of the sticker makes it impossible to alter it to
read "I Feel Bloated."

My favorite bumper sticker is, "Visualize Whirled Peas."

I don't get it.
