Dear ppl,
I seem to be having trouble finding breeders in Alberta that have
champion puppies for sale. I am interested in putting them in shows.
if anyone has any info or links that could help me, that would be great
Go to the AKC http://www.akc.org/ website the Great Dane national
club website http://www.gdca.org/ and find the Great Dane breeder
referral contact. Use the AKC's event search engine http://
www.akc.org/events/search/ to find all-breed or Great Dane specialty
shows within what you consider to be a practical travel distance. GO
TO THE SHOWS AND TALK TO BREEDERS, OWNERS, AND HANDLERS, and not just
about who has available puppies. You want to learn from them, and you
also want them to know you. Read up on the breed. Become knowledgable,
and become known to the people who may have good puppies available in
the future as someone who is interested, teachable, and responsible.
And remember that no one is going to sell you a "champion puppy"--at
least no one you want to buy from. They'll sell you a show-quality
puppy that has the potential to become a champion, if they come to
regard you as a good, responsible owner for one of their precious
puppies. Remember that the puppies ARE precious; responsible breeders
produce one or two litters a year AT MOST. Many produce litters less
often than that. Quality puppies from good homes are NOT constantly
available.
