Default hemp

I get referred by a small boutique style pet supply shop that sells a
lot of hemp collars, leashes and harnesses. Does anyone use these and
have anything wonderful or horrible to say about them?

I had a hemp collar on Emmett for awhile. It wore better
than I expected and I thought it was a lovely color, but
over time it started to look shabbier than it really was. I
basically liked it a lot, being more concerned about
function than looks.

I haven't used hemp collars and leashes, but have hemp shoes and a hemp
bag, which have worn like iron.

They had a really interesting aroma when they came fresh out of the box,
but that went away with a little airing out...

A bonus: when it gets too shabby you can grind it up and smoke it in a
pipe.

I used www.dogpile.com to find the following reference in the Wikipedia:
Cannabis sativa subsp. sativa is the major hemp crop, while C. sativa
subsp. indica has poor fiber quality, and is used for production of
recreational and medicinal drugs. The chief difference lies in the amount
of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, secreted in resins from epidermal
glands— the strains of Cannabis sativa used for industrial hemp production
contain almost none of this resin while other varieties secrete significant
amounts. Some botanists dispute these labels and more genetic analysis will
be needed to gain consensus.

You probably need to smoke a lot more of the hemp collars to get a buzz. By
that time you'd get more lightheaded from monoxide.

That would be my problem with hemp.

amount!

Janet,
I did not know they make hemp leashes and collars for dogs but I will
be on the look out as I would like to try them. Everyone here got new
leashes for Christmas, so maybe I will buy some collars.
I use Hemp body lotion for myself that is very soothing. Of course I
use other lotions that are just as nice I suppose. I think my daughter
has a nice blouse made from hemp, cute and comfy and kind of pricey!!!!!
Good luck and please report back if you decide to try leashes or
collars...Thanks, Judy

Seriously, please read the Wiki reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp
for more information about hemp. Especially if you get leashes and collars,
you should know that hemp was phased out for use as rope, and replaced by
Manila and synthetics, because it rots from the inside out, and can break
unexpectedly. Sailors used to apply tar to the rope (hence the nickname) as
a preservative, but I don't think you'd do that for dog equipment.

Enjoy the New Year!

Paul and (back home again) Muttley
