We have a 9 year old male yorkie. He weighs right at 10lbs. Within
the past few months he has started this thing where he acts like he is trying to get rid of a hairball. It's like he is gagging. He never produces a hairball, but yet he still gags. My wife uses a dropper to put small amounts of water on the back of his throat. She also gives him small amounts of peanut butter and stuff like that in an attempt to sooth his throat. Does anyone with a yorkie have similar experiences? Thanks |

If this coughing has come on in only the last few months, I'd absolutely go see your vet. Sooner rather than later, as Matt said. Coughing can be a symptom of heart disease, something toy breeds are prone to. Peanuit butter and water aren't going to do a thing if his heart is giving him problems. http://www.petplace.com/dogs/chronic...rt-disease-in- dogs/page1.aspx http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=462 Please get your dog checked ASAP. This might be a collapsed trachea, which is fairly common in small dogs. My
mother-in-law's toy poodle was diagnosed with this condition and makes a similar gagging sound.
