Any reason for the persuasion towards Oliver, Olivia .. like being named after a family member? No. Just names we like. The big thing for us is that the name needs to be easily pronouncable both in english (my mothers side of the family) and french (my father's side and Gen's side). Marcel |

Not so keen on Olivier, but then again, NO ONE liked my daughter's name (Rowan) until after she was born. Now they LOVE her name, and it suits her perfectly. So go with what YOU (and your wife) like rather than what anyone else thinks. Names are fun, but also tough to pick for other people. So many names have connotations from our personal experiences; people we know or knew in the past. Also, I tend to like Irish/Gaelic names which probably won't flow as nicely for you. There are tons of websites with name suggestions. I've been using them to look at puppy names. ![]() Congratulations on your impending addition!! As for Rowen, I think of the Elf in The Lord of the Rings. And as a LOTR fan, I love Rowen too! |

So go with what YOU (and your wife) like rather than what anyone else thinks. I love the name Rowan!! Like diddy, it has a very old/Irish/Gaelic/ LotR air to it. I ask for suggestions because I *suck* at coming up with names. Names are fun, but also tough to pick for other people. So many names have connotations from our personal experiences; people we know or knew in the past. Also, I tend to like Irish/Gaelic names which probably won't flow as nicely for you. I don't have any personal restrictions on names that I can think of. Gen OTOH, as a teacher, has a large list of name that *ARE NOT ALLOWED* (to be said in Voice of God voice, complete with reverb). There are tons of websites with name suggestions. I've been using them to look at puppy names. ![]() Congratulations on your impending addition!! I hope he/she is very healthy and that your wife's pregnancy is as well. Her last pregnancy went very well. No morning sickness and, aside from a brief scare when the OB/GYN couldn't hear Emilie's heartbeat (turns out Gen has a tilted uterus or something like that that makes it hard to hear the heartbeat), it went smooth as silk. Hopefully this one is the same. Marcel |
