We have a puppy that we got from a pound. He is about 7 months old.
When he can, he bolts from home. No matter how much you call him, he's not going to stop or come back. We've only had him for 3 weeks so he's new to us but in other ways we seem to be bonding. He also gets along very well with our other puppy who we've had for about 3 months. We have never had a puppy run away like this before. Anyone have training tips or ideas on dealing with this guy? He has been fixed. Thanks in advance. |

And if you need to wait for a start date, be more careful and use your leash. You have another puppy as well? How old? What made you choose to get another puppy at this time? -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

He has been fixed. I have a "bolter" as well. She runs as soon as gets outside. She is A LOT better now (she's 18 months old) but I've been working with her since she was just 13 weeks old to come when called (I got her at 13 weeks). I do not have a fenced yard so she still gets tied when she got out potty. She knows to wait at the door to get clipped and doesn't bolt until after I give her the command "go potty" (which is given after she's clipped). My best advice, and I am not a trainer, is to buy a long lead and work with the dog to come back when called. I use a 50 foot lead and train outside where there's lots of distractions to try to make it as real as possible. Also, teaching the dog to wait at the door for a command to go out wouldn't hurt. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do. |
