Default Help to identify dog's breeds

My wife and I are in the process of adopting a dog from the local
animal shelter. I was hoping someone on here could help us to
determine what breeds she may be or a good place to go to ask. We will
definitely ask the vet once we get her but I am curious and anxious to
know others thoughts before we actually get to take her home (we have
to wait 3-5 days).

The sign on her pen said that she was a German Shepherd mix and the
print out when we placed a deposit said she was a lab mix (which I
don't really see at all). I don't know much about all the different
breeds but the more I look I think she might be part Rottweiler with
the black and brown spots over her eyes. What other breeds have that
distinct facial feature? She is a very small dog though, about 35
pounds, so I am guessing she has some other smaller breed in her.

Here is a picture of her: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fsamuels/441252573/

If this is the wrong place to ask about this, I'm sorry. Thanks for
the help!

No German Shepherd there, at least not one purebred parent. Hardly any
retriever there either, and I don't believe in one purebred Rottweiler
parent either dur to small size. But 25 % Rottie is very possible. It looks
like a cross between a medium-sized herding dog (Border Collie, Kelpie but
not GCD or Collie) and a Pit Bull, but as that color is super rare in Pits,
the other parent is hardly a purebred Pit Bull.

I actually think that your dog might be a 2nd or 3rd gen cross with several
different breeds in her. Like 25 % Border Collie, 25 % Rottweiler, 25 % Pit
Bull, 25 % about any breed there is.

Phoebe is cute as a button! Love that smiling, happy face. It looks like
she will bring you a lot of joy!

My wife and I have a seven yo that looks identical to Phoebe, except about
50 lbs. We never knew what breed(s) she was (actually thought Rottweiler
when she was a puppy), but the vet thinks Kelpie. If Phoebe is anything
like ours, be ready for a super high energy pup...needs lots of
activities/jobs...daily newspaper retrieval, walks, frisbee fetching, etc.
Been a great dog!

=============
She is a very sweet good looking dog.
She looks to me like she has Rottweiler in her by her markings. Rottweilers
do not have white on their faces and she does, but her ears and eyes and
facial expression also remind me of a Rottweiler's. Her coat looks brown in
the photo, so not sure what that is from, unless it is from a liver-colored
Lab. The length of the coat would be the same as a Rotty also. You say she
is small; can't recognize what the small breed might be in her. How old is
she? There other breeds with similar type markings as a Rotty that are
small breeds; Dachshunds, Miniature Pinschers, Manchester Terriers, and
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels come to mind, but she looks nothing like
them.
Some other large breeds also have those markings such as Coonhounds,
Dobermans and Gordon Setters. The Bermise Mountain Dog has brown, black
and white markings on it, but the coat is longer. I don't see that breed in
that dog either. I would guess her markings are from a Rottweiler.

I own a border collie/black lab mix she's more of the border collie in
trait and from the pic that samuels sent no border collie there that's
for sure, but do agree that might have some other small/med breed in
her don't know what it's anyones guess.

She looks to have some husky in her that would explain the markings on her
face that turn light almost white and the coat type seems very thick and
kinda kinky or wavy in the individual hairs. The jowls are kinda like
Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler). She is too fine boned to have rottie to
closs to her surface so I don't think that's in there. I don't think she has
shepherd, rottie, lab or any of those in there. Just my two cents.
