I'm absolutely horrified by this type of thing. Yeah - I just love
people carrying guns right now. I have a nephew who is a senior engineering student who's about to graduate. He's safe thank goodness, but so many young people are dead. The whole thing makes me really hate the "everyone have a gun" opinion. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

The whole thing makes me really hate the "everyone have a gun" opinion. Instead, everyone NOT owning a gun was yarded up like sheep and slaughtered. I bet that student did NOT have a legal permit to carry nor was legally carrying a gun on campus. Those who did have legal permits, I imagine wished thay were illegally carrying during those two hours. These shootings were TWO hours apart. Police protected the students, YES M`AM! Very efficiently too. |

He's safe thank goodness, but so many young people are dead. The whole thing makes me really hate the "everyone have a gun" opinion. I spent a great many years at Virginia Tech. I got two engineering degrees there, got married there, and started my family while I was in graduate school there. I have a lot of friends who still live there and friends who have children attending, as well as friends who teach at the university. I'm afraid to start making phone calls. I have always been shocked and disappointed by how easy it is for people to get guns. Depending on the state where you live, you might just have to show your driver's license, sign a statement saying you are sane, they make 1 phone call, and 5 minutes later you can walk out with any gun or guns you want, from small revolvers to assault rifles. That's how it is in Kentucky. I believe that restrictions on gun purchases would at least keep guns out of the hands of many people who shouldn't have them but who aren't street saavy enough to obtain them illegally. But the gun lobby won't give in to reasonable restrictions, and this is why I will NEVER have anything to do with the NRA, not even their Eddie Eagle program. Not everyone needs guns, and it certainly shouldn't be so easy to get them. I wouldn't mind waiting several months and subjecting myself to tests and an FBI background check before I could purchase a firearm. WTF is so wrong with some friggen caution when it comes to selling deadly weapons?? Everytime they flash video from my alma mater, my stomach ties in knots. I can't imagine enduring what those kids endured today, nor can I imagine having a child attending there during this tragedy. It's horrifying. -- Lynne |

Maybe you're beginning to understand the anger, frustration, and outrage that the gun rights community feels at something like this. The government creates an area where any lunatic with a gun can damned-near guarantee that he'll be the only one with a gun there. Tells people they'll be safe, because there are no guns, and then does damned-all to actually do anything about it. I don't know why so many people have so hard a time understanding it. "No guns" policies do not make people safer. No criminal, no lunatic, no raving nutcase was ever stopped by a "no guns" sign. -- To my mind it is wholly irresponsible to go into the world incapable of preventing violence, injury, crime, and death. How feeble is the mindset to accept defenselessness. How unnatural. How cheap. How cowardly. How pathetic. - Ted Nugent |

Roughly the same number of humans have lost their life in just one little state, e.g., Tennessee, in just the first two weeks of this month, in car accidents. http://www.state.tn.us/safety/dailyfatality.htm One thing you won't see or hear about them is round the clock news coverage, interviews with sobbing parents and friends, etc. I have a nephew who is a senior engineering student who's about to graduate. He's safe thank goodness, but so many young people are dead. Their deaths were tragic. Absolutely. But were they any more tragic than the deaths in those Tennessee car accidents? The whole thing makes me really hate the "everyone have a gun" opinion. That's because you're thinking irrationally. And emotionally. The last time there was a shooting at a college in Virginia, a couple of students ran to their cars, grabbed their guns, and confronted the shooter. Two people ended up dead, but things could have been far worse had not these students violated school policy by keeping their guns in their cars. Intentionally creating areas in which people are vulnerable to attack, and doing nothing of substance to protect them is, in my mind, criminal. -- Any deity worthy of a graven image can cobble up a working universe complete with fake fossils in under a week - hey, if you're not omnipotent, there's no real point in being a god.
