Thanks for posting the article and pictures, at least one of the
pictures. The dog reminds me of my dog Jubal Early. My dog's feet are
smaller and I think his head is smaller but same shape and same
coloring. It sickens me to know that dog will die. He has such a sad
look on his face. I don't think it relates to this article but I saw an
item on ESPN that said Vick may not be the starting QB. I can only
hope. I really hope he can't start because he is in the slammer but
that is dream land.

Out of curiosity, did you name him that or did he come with
that name?

Melinda,
Jubal Early was a dog that was dumped at our family's bar. He hung
around for a few days and finally I claimed him.
I always liked the name Jubal. I checked it out and discoverered it
meant "first maker of music". That was appropriate cause he howled the
first night.
Then I came across the name Jubal Early. He was a respectable officer
in the Civil War. My Jubal Early is named after a Confederate soldier.
His name suits him and it rolls off the tongue.

I just thought it was a funny (in a good way) juxtaposition
with Che, so I was wondering if it had been your idea. It's
a good name for a dog, in any event.

Melinda,
I am glad you like Jubal Early's name. I will probably regret asking
this question but I am curious. You made reference to the fact that my
choice of names was a funny juxtaposition with Che. I am referring to
naming Jubal Early after a Confederate General. Meaning.......what?

Right - when I were a sprout we used to get lots and lots
and lots of Virginia history, etc., in school, so I'm quite
familiar with Jubal Early. We used to take field trips to
battle sites.

Anyway, I thought it was funny good that you were honoring
both a revolutionary and a reactionary - it's open-minded or
non-partisan or whatever.

And, I think, an extra good name for a Pit Bull.

Melinda,
Thanks for explaining your reference to Jubal Early and my choice of
names.
I am amazed that you knew who Jubal Early was. I had no idea his name
was that well known.
My Mother was born in Va. but that had nothing to do with my choice of
names. She was dead before he arrived. She was up on Civil War
history. You make me wonder. I have to imagine that she probably knew
the name too.
The first Vet I took him to knew who Jubal Early was.
I sent JE to a new home shortly after I got him. That lasted about 2
weeks and he was back. Anyway, the fella that adopted him thought his
name was Jubilee.
I am not in a box about anything or any one. I am as open minded and
as free as they come. At least, I try to be.

Shelly,
I really wasn't thinking of him being a Pit Bull when I named him
Jubal Early, but I do agree with you it is a fitting name for a Pit Bull
especially him.
