Indeed, but the person making the collars only sells one per dog,
so it's a one-off sale. A vet can make much more money selling
drugs, and for howevermany years...

Fact: pharmacy is the LOWEST profit center in an animal hospital. Nobody
gets rich off of it. Instead of accusing and assuming, ask how much it costs
to run a hospital first.

Actually, I think that you would find that the charlatans
....errrr...salesmen who sell those copper collars are far more interested
in worshipping at the altar of the almight dollar than vets.

Agreed that the drug situation is completely nuts, but I
guess I'm kind of unclear about what kind of thinking leads
someone to choose anecdotal schmoozy crap over documented
research and rigorous methodology and analysis when deciding
how to care for an ailing pet.

The message from Rocky contains these words:
Call me Kreskin, but I'm guessing that now that copper is so
expensive, copper alloys will somehow prove even more effective.

I'm not sure about the alloys. I would think that it would
need to be pure copper for it to be effective...

Oh, well. I thought it was funny. Come to think of it, now
it's funnier!

I had heard great reports of the use of copper collars for pets
with arthritis. I tried one, and it worked.

You don't know whether or not it worked. It might have, it
might not have, but you don't know, and you can't know in
the absense of a proper sample and proper methodology. At
this point it's very well understood that human headcolds
clear up at the same rate of speed whether someone is taking
cold medication or not, but the people who were taking
medication tend to credit the drugs with their recovery.

You *want* to believe that the copper worked, you *think* it
worked, but you don't *know* that it worked. You think that
you know that it worked.

I believe in alternative therapies,

I do, too, but ones that have some science behind them. And
you can bet your ass that when one of my dogs is ailing I'm
not going to forgo proven therapies in favor of something
promoted by some random ninnyhammer who's got an axe to
grind against vets. The dogs come first.

I SAW the change in my dog, and while it can't be quantified,
it certainly made movement much easier for him.

You do not know whether or not the change was caused by the
copper, changed by something else, or was naturally
occuring. You're advocating cargo cult veterinary
"medicine."
