I'm taking care of a toy poodle who is extremely nervous almost all
the time. The reason I am taking care of her is because she wouldn't
eat and almost died. My friend is having some health problems so I
took her home to try and get her to eat. I took her to the vet and all
her blood work was fine except her glucose was very low because she
hadn't eaten. She has gained a pound since I have had her for a little
over a week. She was like this before I started taking care of her.
The owner has said that she acts like she has abused her and she
hasn't. She either sleeps and when she is awake she shakes. I have
had to force feed her on occassion because she is so nervous she won't
eat. I've tried to take her for walks and she's too scared. She looks
around all the time like something is going to get her.
I also think she may be going blind and deaf. She's only 7 years old.
Sometimes when I pick her up she is fine and sometimes she shakes and
won't stop.
What could cause this? Could it be some kind of nerological disorder?
It pains me so much to see her like this...

Are you trying to make her eat "dog food"? Have you tried giving
her just plain meat (chicken, beef), maybe with a little cheese
or a very light dusting of garlic powder? Or mixing such with
her regular food?

I wouldn't advocate this as a regular diet, but it might help
jump-start her appetite if she is dangerously undernourished.

What does the vet say about the anxiety and fearful behavior?

I'm going to take her to an internist on Monday. I was force feeding
her A/D but now she is eating Innova. I went to the feed store and got
samples of many dog foods and she seems to like that one.

I've tried boiled chicken, ground chicken, beef, everything and she
will only eat dry dog food. I went to the feed store and got many
samples of different foods and she seems to like Innova. But I made an
appointment to see an internist for her on Monday....Thanks for your
