It's always been Khan's routine in the summer to sleep the day away in a dark corner of the extra-cool (unfinished) basement, once breakfast is over. Generally, we close the basement door at night, so he'll go to the foyer and stand by the basement door until one of us opens it for him. If it takes too long, he'll walk up like he wants something, then turn around and trot to the door. This morning, as I passed by the door on the way to the kitchen, I left the door open. After his breakfast, Khan went to the foyer, and stood there like he usually does when the door is closed (I can't see the basement door from the office). I went to check, and sure enough, the door was open. He kept looking at me, like he expected something from me, so I walked over to the door and grabbed the door knob as if I were just opening it, and sure enough, he walked right down. Daft dog. I think he's expecting his posse to hold the door open so his fuzzy self can take his rightful place in the basement corner. Suja |

He may not realize that he's allowed to go down there without a signal from you. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

He has always gone downstairs whenever he felt like it, so this is new for us. I'm going to see if he repeats it. Considering he doesn't always seem to be able to tell the difference between an open door and a closed one, maybe seeing me open it is the only way he knows fersure that the door is open. Not that butting his head into walls/doors has ever been a problem for him, mind you. Suja |
