The Short Version:

Cats? There are cats?

http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y65...t=Pan_Lady.jpg

WooHoo! CATS!!!!

http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y65...Khan_lady2.jpg
(Lady was not amused when Khan play bowed and barked at her)

The Long Version:

Khan was out of his little mind with excitement. There. Are. CATS.
EVERYWHERE!!! With the exception of Lady, who has brain damage and is
mostly blind and has questionable judgment, everyone else made themselves
scarce. Lady thought that we had brought her a big fuzzy toy to play with,
and spent a lot of time stalking Khan. It was the funniest sight ever to
see her walk up to Khan and bat at his feet, or chase behind him, batting at
his feet, as he tried to figure out just what was up with this kitty. He
let her play with his tail too, but did growl at her when she pounced on it
too hard, or bit too hard

http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y65...=Khan_lady.jpg

Eventually, two of the younger cats came out of hiding, and Clyde sniffed
Khan as he was sleeping, and Bonnie slunk around him making like a shadow to
try and get into the bedroom, as he lay at the entrace, blocking the way.
Finn was NOT amused. As Khan trotted up to him to sniff him as he sat in
his favorite window, he let out the most impressive hiss, and showed him the
knives in his feet just in case the dog didn't get the message. Later, Pan
walked within 5 ft. of him, and hit the deck when he hissed at her, although
she hadn't seen him and didn't seem to know what his deal was. By the time
we left, the cats had taken to watching the dogs from high places, would
come around as long as they had an out, and were otherwise not completely
petrified. I did hear that they did the happy dance after we left.

I felt bad for Khan. He spent considerable amount of time staring longingly
at cats that would run away if he tried to get closer. I have a strong
suspicion that he thinks that cats play with dogs, because a lot of his body
language was very similar to what he would do when he was trying to play
with dogs, including appeasement behavior when dogs act scared of him.

Oh yeah, Pan thinks that their couches are just purrrfect for big doggies:

There also be chewies, and it appears that chewies trump cats.

Awww! Silly Khan, but a very cute mental image.

I wonder if he had cats of his own in his former life? It sounds to
me like he just plain *likes* them.

Poor Khan -- he just wants to play! Max keeps play-bowing to Rosalie, who
is always unamused by such behavior.

Khan is such a handsome guy, I am always very struck by that when I see
pictures of him. I love his huge paws too. And Miss Pan is quite the
gorgeous girl as well. Thanks for sharing the pix.

It's pretty funny to me that of all the critters she really noticed, Shazzy
was the only one she paid any attention to. Of course, she was all in a
tizzy and huffing and getting in Pan's face, so it was hard not to.

Awww! Silly Khan, but a very cute mental image.

He's a dork. That's for sure.

That's very cute and very sweet.

I was very glad Khan had at least one cat to play around with, even if it
was on her terms. I think he would've been heart broken if none of the cats
had stuck around.

I wonder if he had cats of his own in his former life?

That's my feeling too. I'm thinking that not only did he have cats, he
must've had cats that liked dogs well enough to play with them. There were
times when Lady would chase him, batting at his paws, and then he'd try to
take his turn by chasing her. He seemed kinda puzzled that she wouldn't
play that.

It sounds to
me like he just plain *likes* them.

Sure seems that way. He acts with them the way he used to act with dogs
when he was a lot younger.

Holy crap!

Heh. I gave him the bone when he left, and he worked on it for a loooong
time. Apparently, he'd walk around carrying it, dragging it up and down
stairs even. No, there are no pictures of that.

I think she's really pissed that we brought Pan along.

Oh yeah. He's gorgeous, and a goofball too. Reminded me a little of young
Khan, although he was never this goofy around dogs.

Aw! What a sweet goofball.

That's him, alright. He was chillin' after giving the Hedgie a piece of his
mind.

Oh yeah, the giant paws always attract comments. Also makes people think
he's younger than he is, because Mr. Short Stuff looks like he needs to grow
into those paws. There is something really special about him that I can't
quite put my finger on. He never fails to gather a few admirers, wherever
he goes. We went to the dog park near my brother's house, and all the
wimmen were gaga over his cute and fuzzy self. There were grown women
giving him hugs and talking in baby talk - which is quite funny BTW, if you
haven't heard Brooklyn flavored baby twok.

And Miss Pan is quite the
gorgeous girl as well.

I wouldn't exactly call her that, but thank you!

I see a distinct difference between NJ dog parkers and the ones here. The
ones there are quite a bit more "friendly". In all of five minutes, I found
out about some really personal issues, like some guy's prostate problems,
and how some lady doesn't shave.

And I'm starting to wonder if people's standards for dog behavior is getting
lower. I had at least three people ask me on one day if I'm a dog trainer.
Just because my dogs aren't obnoxious and know how to walk on a damn loose
leash doesn't make me any sort of dog trainer. And, there are people at our
dog park that are apparently referring to me as the Dog Whisperer (not when
I"m around, so far). WTF?

That's quite possible! When Pan was young, she had a dog that she
*adored*. She and her sister and the dog played together pretty
much non-stop.

There were
times when Lady would chase him, batting at his paws, and then he'd try to
take his turn by chasing her. He seemed kinda puzzled that she wouldn't

She might learn, if they spent more time together. She seems like a
good sport.

I don't doubt it! That picture was priceless, though. *That* is a
dog with attitude to spare!

They look so plushy!

The ingrate said something about girl cooties, but I'll accept the
complements on his behalf. I do love his feet, and play with them, much to
his dismay.

What a great photo. Who is the cute little girl with Pan?

That's my SIL's daughter. She's growing like a weed. I swear, she's grown
a foot in the last year.

and what *is* it about the hedgehogs?!

They're the closest thing to groundhogs, which is the only 4-footed edible
he can actually chase down?

Carmine likes the old Hedgie
carcass we've had since the sheps disembowled it years ago. Somehow the
empty Hedgie skin turned up and he's been carrying it around ever since.

Pictures? Khan has 3 hedgehog toys that he loves. One is a small kids' toy
given to him by Jade (neighbor's daughter) after she busted its squeaker.
He loves that thing and would carry it around and lick it, very unusual
behavior in a dog that doesn't really like toys.

go pick up his toys
in the evening and before long those two Hedgietoys will be brought back
out and he'll lay right next to them to go to sleep, just like Linus and
his security blanket.

Khan won't do that, but it's the Hedgehog toys he's never grown tired of.
He also seems to really like his Mallard (which honks like a goose); maybe
Carmine would like one of his own too?

Grunting is so... uncouth. He sighs. VERY loudly. And pretend that you

Thanks Suja! NOT!

Well, I know you're not a professional trainer, but you do have high
standards for your dogs' behavior and you have worked hard at training
them. I agree that a lot of people do no training whatsoever, so the bar
is low. But your dogs really do sound well-trained and well-behaved.
Plus, it always sounds like you know how to handle other dogs too. I
think you might have that "air of authority" that dogs respect. I mean,
Khan's the boss, and you're the boss of Khan. That makes you top dog at
the dog park!
