........Sorry, that was a half expressed thought! Salmonella isn't that
big
an issue with animals......most of the Salmonella warnings (rawhide treats
for example) are really warnings for people handling them (esp kids,
elderly, immune compromised).

Rawhides are pretty well known as possibly harboring salmonella, especially
if they're made outside the states. With supermarkets having them out in the
open in bulk bins for people to paw through, I'm surprised the Salmonella
Police haven't stopped there first. Guess it's who you know.
