-- *There are no accidents in life* "mira" wrote in message oups.com... my dog seraphina, [sair-a-feen-a], and she's a dalmatian mixed with a golden lab, i'll put it straight, she's hairy and white and has got black spots like a dalmations. anyway i'm going 2 get 2 the point, every 4th of july, she hears the fireworks go off, then she shakes terribly, almost like a earth quake is striking and no one can feel it but her. is this normal? why does this happen? how can i fix it? seraphina's eyes are red around the pupal, and i sware she is not a hound! i just don't know why her eyes are red. we allways thought it was allergies, a disiese, or a possibility she was born that way because ever since we got her she was this way. she was 5 years old when we got her, and we've had her for 5 years. i'm really worried about her. and we can never catch up with the only good vet wee have around hear. is this also normal? why are her eyes red? how can i fix it? P.S.please answer these questions if you know the answer!just e-mail |

in thread oups.com: mira
whittled the following words: she hears the fireworks go off, then she shakes terribly, is this normal? why does this happen? how can i fix it? Translation : My dog has fear of fireworks This is very common and it's always a question asked this time of year. There is much documented information on the net, ranging from desensitation techniques to medication or a combination of both. "http://www.google.com/search?q=dog+fireworks+fear&start=0&start=0&ie=utf- 8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US fficial"Try what works best for your dog. The above link should help you get started why are her eyes red? how can i fix it? No translation needed here. Take her to the vet and see if there is something that needs to be fixed. |

Shelly wrote: Could be, but I get the impression that it's more of a mental ability issue. I think I disagree (I'm kind of ambivalent). I thought it was relatively easy to read - it was structured in real paragraphs (i.e. the ideas were organized) and it was basically coherent. The errors were spelling and syntax. I read a lot of stuff in English written by non-native speakers and there's a big difference between something that's mechanically inept and something that's intellectually inept. While I don't see the usual signs that this is a non-native speaker I don't see the signs of intellectual disability, either. I think the spelling was just really, really annoying. But, as I said, it wouldn't be that hard to convince me I'm wrong. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

Perhaps you may have meant "I think I'm kind of ambivalent"? But, as I said, it wouldn't be that hard to convince me I'm wrong. You could well be correct. I work with a lot of non-native speakers of English, but their English skills are generally excellent, so I'm not a good judge. For some reason, my "Is this that Karsan and/or Mirelle person?" meter was tweaked. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

.........I think text messages have polluted the brains of the young. Could be, but I get the impression that it's more of a mental ability issue. Being a former teacher, it looked to me more like sloppy or lazy writing. The "anyway i'm going 2 get 2 the point" is a clue. No caps at beginning of sentences and proper nouns, sloppy sentence structure... I had students with mental problems and some that were ESLs, none wrote so lazily. I know this doesn't bother some people, and that's fine. Personal gripe I suppose. But It's just good manners when asking for help on a public forum, NG etc, to do your best to make the post readable. |
