Default how often for teeth brushing?

How much is too much brushing? I used to brush the dogs teeth weekly or so
but I would sometimes forgot. If I do it more frequently, then I will
remember easier. So, can I do it daily? Or is that too much? FWIW, I
brush them for about 10-30 seconds each time I brush.

My vet says you should do it daily, but no less than every third day at
which time the plaque starts to harden to tarter

That's good to know. I definately wasn't doing it daily or every third day
but they look ok so far and the vet felt they were good too. She said keep
doing what you are doing (which was weekly). I started doing it daily about
4 days ago and its nice because then I don't forget but I also didn't want
to overdo it and cause sore gums or something. So, I will strive for daily
and then if I miss a day here and there it won't be too aweful.

Realize, too that tartar formation is highly variable. I have a friend
who brushes all four of his dogs' teeth daily (four dogs, I mean, not
one dog with four teeth). Nevertheless, one of them has consistently
grotty teeth. I can't imagine what they'd look like without the daily
brushing. The vet says it has to do with the chemical composition of
that particular dog's teeth and saliva, as well as the relative dryness
of the dog's mouth.

The gums will become tougher, tighter and healthier with regular
brushing and massage. A little pink on the brush is no cause for alarm
at the beginning of a tooth cleaning regime.
