Default Sheltie biting at her feet

My 3 year old sheltie is very frequently nibbling at her feet. I have
checked all of them and can not see anything except now they are
reddened where she has been biting them. Her white feet now have a
pinkish colour to them because she has chewed some of the hair off.
This happened once before and it corrected itself but I'm wondering
why. I called my vet and it was suggested having her wear a coller
which is not so easily done.

Has anybody else had this problem with their dog before?

It sounds like the classic signs of allergies

Are you thinking food or flea bites? I had a dog once that developed
hot spots because of flea bites but Chelsea is on a flea program.

diddy, what might one check or adjust in this situation?

Demon does the very same thing, but her diet has not changed since she
was a young pup.

I have noticed in particular that she pulls at the hair between her toes.
Which I have tried my best to cut very short, thinking that it was
causing them itchiness or rash due to heat.

The hair between their (Demon and Pudge) toes actually grows quite long.
Before cutting it for the first time, I would say it was approximately 2
inches long.

Just about all the dogs I've known that have done this have had allergies of
one form or the other. The most recent one turned out to be food, but the
one I know more closely is allergic to grass (certain types).

Yes, I'd vote for a contact reaction--to something on the grass and/or
on the carpet.

I'll go against the grain, heh: the only dog I've had who
worried its feet turned out to be allergic to the corn in its
food.

OP: consider that many dogs sublimate medical and behavioural
issues. Paws are often a secondary target.

Many thanks for your responses. I took Chelsea to the vet the next
day because her feet were quite sore looking. He felt it was an
allergic reaction and gave her a Cortisone shot followed up with
Prednisone pills. The next day the biting at her feet stopped and
things are almost back to normal.
