Oh, I suppose it's possible, just really unlikely. And since it *was*
hot in here on that day, why assume zebras when horses are the obvious
culprit? The other thing is that just a couple of days previous, this
same coworker asked a much-younger-than-me coworker if she was a
member of AARP.

Could be your worker's misperception of age. But hot flashes do start
at widely variable ages, as does menopause. Even in the late 30s they
aren't unknown, just fairly rare.

However, one thing that was surefire trigger of a hot flash for me was
excess heat, like being in a hot room. Yeah, ain't ma nature
wonderful. Why couldn't I have hot flashes when it was freezing, when
they would have been useful?

For me, it's stress. A couple of years back I had to physically
intervene in a confrontation between two team members. Handlers, not
dogs. I was so angry at both of them it was all I could do not to knock
their stupid heads together.

It triggered the worst hot flash I've ever had. I felt like I was about
to burst into flames. I was totally drenched with sweat; couldn't have
been any wetter if I'd been thrown into a pond. And bright red. Not
just my face, either - neck, chest, arms, legs, everything.

My daughter said the color change was so immediate and dramatic she
expected me to swell up and burst my clothes like some sort of
menopausal Incredible Hulk. Since she has a well developed instinct for
self preservation she withheld this observation until I'd had a gallon
of ice water, a cold shower, a long conversation with my husband via
cell phone and a couple of Coronas.
