No, not a bit overweight - a *lot* overweight.
Don't be kind to him here, because it's not being kind to Muttley.
And if Schoen doesn't get started on a weight reduction program soon
(less food, more exercise), it'll be virtually impossible to do it
when Muttley gets older and starts to have energy and structural
problems, etc.
He's a large dog, and large dogs tend to have those
sorts of problems as they age.
No, no more than small dogs do, TD, who have owners who think that
food = love.
It's never the dog, it's always the dog owner.
Additionally, I've rarely seen a fat dog who didn't have a fat owner.
I think I'll even apply for government funding one day to "study" that
phenomenon.
I'd imagine especially in colder climates.
There's no good reason for a dog to ever be thaaaat over-weight, no
matter what the temperature is.
Waterfowl hunters in colder parts of the country usually start to put
a few pounds on their dogs in the late summer or early fall, in
anticipation of the hunting season, but only a few pounds. And by the
time the hunting season is over, the extra poundage is long gone.
