This is where hot weather comes in handy.

My own vet said that watching and waiting is their recommendation at this
time, and we'll do x-rays if he doesn't improve. Let's hope he does, and
this doesn't turn out to be chronic (back problems are common in poms).

Do you have access to a veterinary physical therapist? They
know some things that vets don't, including treatment
things, and can be an incredible help in dealing with
skeletal/muscular problems.

The e-vet also guessed his age to be around 8, about double what other
vets and the rescue group have guessed,

Did she say why?

Here's hoping that he's up and bouncing soon (well, in three
weeks, anyway), and that you'll be doing your version of
swearing at him for making you worry.
