I have mentioned before that I took my first PBT rescue to the Neuter
Cimmuter to be sterilized. The cost is 20-25 dollars. They spay/neuter your dog, give him a Rabies shot, an Id chip, and a county dog tag. I believe if you are low income the cost is even less. The reason I am mentioning it again in this thread is to let you know that in the blank that you were supposed to indicate the breed of dog I put a ?. I was hoping that someone (the Vet or Vet tech) would ID him for me. They would fill in the blank as to what breed they thought he was. No, it never happened. much to my surprise. If I had it to do over again I would intentionally make a wrong or vague guess about what he appears to be. It seems I could have put Poodle in the breed blank and they would not have questioned it I have an ongoing fear that some day they could just go down the list and decide, death to all PBT's. I realize that is extreme on my part, but that is how I feel. I would pay an extra fee to own a dog that the powers that be deem dangerous. Paul, I know you were trying to come up with a plan that would work for registering or licensing dogs. I admit I do not have one to offer in it's place. I can tell you in this county they do not have the money or interest to administer testing or even read your application. I live in a rural area. Animal Control wouldn't come out here if there was a dog fighting ring next door. Let me revise that, if they came, it would not be in a timely manner. I would so like to get my dogs licenses at my Vet, but they do not offer them. I have to drive into the city to get them re-newed. I have let them lapse many times just because I do not want to make the trip, stand in line, and most especially be in sight of the unwanted dogs up for adoption. If I could re-new via e-mail or even US mail. I would be prompt. I do have a dog that is dog aggressive. He has exhibited dog aggression to the senior dog in the house. Whatever, it is still dog aggression. I would hesitate to admit that on an application such as you suggested. I would be concerned that some people can not differentiate between dog aggression and human aggression. Add to that the fact that he is a PBT mix and on paper it could look different than what it is. I guess that is why there aren't any effective dog registrations in place. It is very complicated. Most importantly, consider that even if someone came up with a brilliant plan to register dogs, the people that have truly dangerous dogs are not going to pay a tax to own them or even register them. It is always going to be that way. If your dog gets picked up by Animal Control here (because he was on the loose). You pay a hefty fee to retrieve him. I think that should be the case. Unfortunately, many people just leave their family pet at the dog pound and go and get a new puppy. Be Free.....Judy |
