Pan was on Clomicalm for separation anxiety, and was weaned off it. She was
on a behavior modification program (similar to
this:http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/sep-anxiety.pdf ) for a very long period
of time, in conjunction with the medication, which allowed for her to be
tapered off the medication. The medication in of itself isn't a magic
bullet, and you need to do some intensive behavior mod in order to mitigate
the dog's anxiety sufficiently that you can some day hope to get him off it.
IIRC, Pan was on the meds for over a year. Yes, it took that long for
everything to settle into place so she wouldn't work herself into a tizzy
every time her owner left.
