breeding golden retriever - any info please?

Jon, if your dog is worthy, you don't have to advertize, you will have
breeders waiting in the wings to use him.
Yepper. In fact, it's pointless to advertise, because in dogs every
day is Sadie Hawkins day - the owner of the bitch decides what dog
she wants to breed to. And especially in a very popular breed like
Goldens, with thousands of nice champions and performance-titled dogs
to choose from, your dog has got to be REALLY outstanding for the
owner of a nice bitch to even consider him.
And with regard to "popping his cherry" - do you know how to manage
a natural breeding? (The stud dog owner is responsible for that.)
Do you have the facilities to board bitches and properly keep the
two separated until she's ready? Do you have a good theriogenologist
(vet who specializes in reproductive medicine) available to you,
one who will be willing to do a fresh-chilled semen collection for
you even on Christmas day if necessary? (Yes, this actually happened
to me once.)
Besides which, in a lot of cases the dog doesn't even "get to have
sex". Both the breedings my dog has had have been via artificial
insemination. (I do have to admit that he seems to enjoy semen
collections a lot though. If you insist on knowing the technical
details, it involves a hand job.)
