I am not convinced that this is you, George. I will phone you next week and see if you are this poster, or if it is a forgery by jerry howe; posting from a different IP. In my conversations with you, you manner is not arrogant. Such as in: You do not seem to be familiar with the enormous psychological literature on paradoxical responses in behavior modification. Also, the quotation below does not make sense since we are discussing dog behavior, and dogs never "despitefully use you." It does not sound like you would project that onto dogs, George. Jesus said, be kind to those who despitefully use you. Talk to you next week, George, and I will respond if this was genuinely written by you. Mirelle On Oct 18, 9:08 pm, Mirelle wrote: Praise while a dog is doing UNWANTED behavior, is a recipe for DISTRUST in the dog. Dogs, know when a person is pleased or not; more so than humans. To BETRAY the dog's LOYALTY - by LYING to the dog with praise while it KNOWS YOU HATE WHAT it is DOING, is like LYING to children that there is a santa clause. When they FIND OUT they HAVE BEEN LIED TO, naturally the TRUST IS BETRAYED. The CONSEQUENCES of BETRAYING TRUST by LYING, creates CONFUSION in the dog; since it is CONFUSED by the DUPLICITY in the ACTIONS of BODY LANGUAGE versus the WORDS that CONTRADICT the BODY LANGUAGE. Only a CONFUSED MIND would believe that praising a dog - when it is showing UNWANTED BEHAVIOR is "dog training." It is DISHONEST and the dog knows it. Dogs need to know what is acceptable and what is not. By praising a dog when BEHAVIORS are UNACCEPTABLE, ultimately DESTROYS the RELATIONSHIP - as the dog CAN NOT TRUST the PERSON LYING with DUPLICITY. It is the same as endorsing PRETENSE instead of HONESTY. Praising the dog while it is MISBEHAVING, will make the dog have: NO RESPECT FOR YOU. Only a DERANGED MIND - would endorse LYING to a dog or person, with UNDUE praise. Just like humans, dogs, like praise when it is GENUINE. Zalman Benheil Shleishi, AKA JERRY HOWE - is PROMOTING CONFUSING dogs; that leads to MISTRUST when there is genuine praise. The manual is not worth a RAT'S ASS. It is a complete WASTE OF TIME. Actually it is EVIL, since it promotes DUPLICITY - between BODY LANGUAGE and WORDS. NO MERIT! Mirelle Mirell aka Vera aka showdogbark, Jesus said, be kind to those who despitefully use you. You do not seem to be familiar with the enormous psychological literature on paradoxical responses in behavior modification. If Shamu is cranky and won't work they simply give up the training, dump a big basket of fish in the tank and leave him alone for a time then start training. Almost always Shamu is then happy to work. Pavlov demonstrated the same phenomena in dogs. See Breland and Breland, The Misbehavior of Organisms, most easily found in Cumulative Record, B.F.Skinner. A.S. Neill (Summerhill:A Radical Approach to Child Rearing) always rewarded bad behavior and the unwanted behavior went away. You seem to think that dogs are at the level of Paramecia, and unable to enjoy complex behavior. Dogs know that rewards for unwanted behavior are an expression of love, affection, support, loyalty, comradeship and so reform their behavior. Anderson and his colleagues reported that the psych literature proves that praise always works more efficiently than scolding (Anderson, H.E.,; White, W. F. & Wash, J.A., Generalized effects of praise and reproof. J.ofEd.Psych., 1966, 3(3), 25-27). Makarenko, Aichborn, Bronfenbrenner, Mr. Lyward, Fenichel, Homer Lane and others all rewarded unwanted behavior. Rewarding always worked - the unwanted behavior disappears. If you will read Glueck and Glueck you will find that punishment always deranges behavior whilst loving, rewarding, positive behavior always focuses behavior and calls back to itself equally healthy behavior.
