My dog, Austin Riley, is 5 months old and he does okay with potty
training. He is litter boxed training to tinkle and next to his litter box is his puppy pad for pooing - well he gets so excited sometimes that when he goes to his pad to poo, he never finishes - he takes off running and usually leaves a log in the middle of the floor. How do I get him to stat put and drop the log where he's standing? |

Of course, in the yard, it doesn't matter so much, so training to outside would seem like a really good idea. Franklin was a line pooper. Standing/squatting still was just not in his repertoire. One always risked stepping on one piece while scooping the main part. A small price to pay and if I was with him and told him to stay put and finish, he was perfectly capable of doing so. -- Janet Boss www.bestfriendsdogobedience.com |

For me, it was the pup who would not only run off.. he'd then stop and sit
before it had all come off, too... so we had _lots_ of bath time..... part of it is just being a very excitable, and distracted puppy, and most of the time, they do grow out of it...at least somewhat.. ![]() Training to outside, and lots of trips out is always best, but not always practical (apartment living, or living somewhere like Alaska where it's very very cold out there right now, and snow is often deeper then the dog is tall.. and even if you shovel a path for them, it can fill in over night, and they arne't going to wait in the morning for you to shovel... ) so the pad and litter training is always a good back up. Stay with the pup when he potties (as much as you can anyway) and encourage as he goes (say, go potty, good potty, etc..) reward when he stays put long enough to finish where he's supposed to go. (lots of praise, petting, a tiny treat..) be patient and work with him, with any luck, this phase won't last long. Davina in Alaska |
