Hi All,
I am in the process of changing my dogs food. She is now eating Nuto Max for adult. She is a Black Lab, 6 years old and has episodes or seizures every 2-4 months. My vet has suggested when switching dog food, to give her half of the old dog food and half new. Any suggestion for good Dog Food Brands..... Thanks, Trax www.thedogshows.com http://www.thedogshows.com/thedogshows.html (blog) |

I don't know where you live, but I think it's great. It scored 120 on the "Food Grading System" listed here in another post, the highest score of any other listed. It has no grain or cereal products at all, and all "named" proteins, e.g. "chicken, turkey, eggs, whitefish" etc. Phyrie -- Kiba the Cav's Pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/phyrie/...758930/detail/ |

I thought that grading system was interesting but a little wacky. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

It has fruit and veg in it. I mentioned the protein sources because often dog food lists them as unnamed "meals" or "by-products". Here's a list of the nutrional breakdown and list of ingredients. Sorry you misunderstood. ORIJEN PUPPY FRESH REGIONAL INGREDIENTS Fresh chicken meat, chicken meal (low ash), turkey meal, steamed russet potato, fresh-caught Northern Whitefish, chicken fat, fresh whole eggs, salmon meal, salmon and anchovy oils, tapioca, chicken broth, sunflower oil, flaxseed, Atlantic kelp, steamed carrots, spinach, peas and tomatoes, sun-cured alfalfa, apple fiber, psyllium seed, rosemary extract, yeast extract (MOS), glucosamine HCl, cranberries, black currants, L-carnitine, chondroitin sulfate.. TONIC HERBS AND BOTANICALS Chicory, burdock and marshmallow root, rosehips, stinging nettle, marigold flowers, fennel seed, chamomile flowers, milk thistle, chickweed, summer savory. ORGANIC MINERALS Iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate. PROBIOTIC MICROORGANISMS Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium (B. bifidus), Saccharomyces (S. boulardii). PREMIUM VITAMINS Mixed tocopherols (source of vitamin E), choline chloride, vitamin A, vitamin D3, niacin, riboflavin, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin B12, folic acid, biotin, pyridoxine (source of vitamin B6). ORIJEN Puppy has a biologically correct (70/30/0) ingredient ratio of 70% meat, and 30% fruit and vegetables (with 0% grain) that are low temperature cooked at 90c to preserve their natural goodness. Seven (7) sources of veterinary inspected meats and fats from Canada's prairie farms, cold northern lakes and clear pacific seas, provide a diverse and complete animo and fatty acid balance to optimally nourish growing puppies. Guaranteed Analysis Protein 40.0% Fat 20.0% Carbohydrate 16.0% Moisture 10.0% Fiber 2.5% Calcium 1.6% Phosphorus 1.4% Omega-6 3.0% Omega-3 1.0% Glucosamine 500 mg/kg Chondroitin 150 mg/kg Microorganisms 40M cfu/kg |

I understand that some dogs have allergies to corn and soy products, but other than that I don't see any reason to avoid grains. Indeed, some grains (some rices, for example) can be very high-quality carbohydrate sources. I'm sure your food is fine. It's just that I think that some of the stuff going on around carbohydrates in general and grains in particular is pretty bogus. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

Thanks, Trax http://www.thedogshows.comhttp://www...hows.html(blog) Hi Trax, I have some information you might be interested in. Recent research has shown that the use of commercial dog food is not only extremely poisonous for dogs, but it also makes dogs much more vulnerable to disease and other illnesses. Although to many, the choice of dog food is just a minor decision, in reality it takes a lot of good consideration. With the right choices, it has shown that dogs can live up to 8 years longer. I have a blog on this topic, and if you're interested, it is at www.squidoo.com/realdogfoodsecrets. No one likes to think that they are harming their beloved pet, but it is your job as a loving owner to take action. Do it before it's too late! |
