I love fall for a lot of reasons, one of which is that my dogs have
always seemed to perk up when the temperature drops. Even Harriet, who is not fond of *cold* weather, is enjoying herself. This morning, on our pre-dawn walk, she was all about the sniffing and the snorting and the sneezing and the bouncy walking. At one point, on our way home, she even flipped around to face me, landing in a play bow. Complete with big, dorky smile, too. I think the weather may have addled her brain. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

With Genny who was born in New Orleans and later moved to Miami, I called it dog weather. I'd be shivering in my unheated apartment reluctant to get out of my warm bed, and she'd be rarin' to go. Cubbe, of the more furry variety, gets revved up by the cold. She gets the zoomies when she gets back in the house. I don't know if she's warming herself up. She sometimes does it when she's spent a while in the cold basement. Jim calls it wahoo. She tears around the house making growling noises and nipping at ankles. (Now she calms down when we tell her to, but it took some training.) It took a while to figure out the connection with the cold, but I think that's it. --Lia |

It does seem like all animals are invigorated by the fall weather. -- Catherine & Zoe, Queenie, & Max, 3 black dogs of varying sizes & Rosalie the calico cat www.ourladyofperfection.blogspot.com |

Such a cute image! It was cute, for sure. Stuff like that (and the snorty bouncies in general), makes having to be awake at ass o'clock much more tolerable. There aren't many things that'll make me laugh at that hour of the morning. It does seem like all animals are invigorated by the fall weather. Yep! And I have to admit that mostly, I feel the same way. It's peppy weather. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

Puppy uppies are uppier, snoozes are deeper. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - Prouder than ever to be a member of the reality-based community |

Has he decided that he'd like to return to mushing? -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |

He's still not able to go as far as the others without pooping out, and I really don't want him quitting on me. Yesterday he was out in the yard while we were hooking up (the dogs going for the run are clipped to a picket line I've strung on the outside of the fence) and he was running back and forth the whole time, pausing occasionally to levitate. It was nice to see him want to go. This weekend I drove through Connecticut Hill to check out the state of things (it's time to start training there) and drove down the road where Image took off with the team and Emmett fried on the way back up the hill. It was a heck o a lot steeper and longer than I remembered - poor Emmett (Image and Cinder thought it was a hoot). So he *wants* to run, but he's just not got the endurance (yet?)? Was he the one with some sort of undiagnosable health or locomotion issue? Or am I just totally smoking crack? pausing occasionally to levitate. It was nice to see him want to go. Is that something like a boing? Brain? What Brain? Well, to be fair, she's *has* received some random brain shipments over the past couple of years. But, yeah, "Boxer" and "brain" are not two words that one tends to see in juxtaposition. Speaking of branes... I recently loaned Harriet's crate out to the person who is fostering Biscuit. I always send Harriet to her crate before meals, and watching her try to puzzle that one out the day her crate went AWOL was Teh Funny. Pobrecita. And I didn't help her, either, because I wanted to see what she'd do. I would have bet money that she'd go to the spot her crate was in. Nope. When she saw that her crate was gone, she ran to the Spare Oom, looked around. Ran to the living room, looked around. She hopped up on the couch. Nope. Ran back to the bedroom and jumped into the middle of my bed. Nope. So then she tried *her* bed, at which point I took pity on her. So "crate" has now been generalized to "your bed." Anyway, the WTFBBQ(!!!?!) look on her face throughout the whole process was priceless. I think she may have also called me a dumbass once or twice, under her breath, mind you, but still. -- Shelly http://www.cat-sidh.net (the Mother Ship) http://esther.cat-sidh.net (Letters to Esther) |
