It says formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the
AAFCO Dog Food nutrient profiles for all life stages.

I have 2 varieties here - Mediterranean Banquet (Lamb, Brown Rice, Chick
Peas, Spinach, Golden Delicous Apples) and Smothered Comfort (Whole
Chicken Thigh, Barley, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Red Delicious Apples,
Blueberries).

Nothing on either can that says anything about not complete. Each 13.2
oz (374g) can is $1.99. For my size dogs, it says 3 3/4 cans. That's
not happening! I give it as supplemental or for travel and only once in
a great while.

I just browsed their website. I feed kibble, so that's what
I looked at. Their "Wilderness Blend" has great-sounding
ingredients, although I don't know to what extent they're
relying on canola oil as a fat source. It's high on the
ingredients list, and I prefer meat fats. But while the
ingredients sound intriguing (buffalo, venison, salmon meal)
I'm not sure that it's any better for the dogs than more
conventional meat sources and wow, that stuff is expensive.
$67US for a 30-lb bag, and the calorie content is modest so
you really can't reduce the amount you feed.

So, looks cool but I'm unconvinced about the cost/benefit
tradeoff.

$46.99 from JBPet, and their prices seem in line with my store's

Interesting - I took the price from the Merrick website.
Still, I'm paying about $40 for a 40lb bag of Eukanuba
"Sporting" (are there enough bad things to say about
Eukanuba's niche-y marketing?), so I'd still be paying
slightly over 150% of what I'm paying for what I'm currently
feeding, plus in my case I'd have to increase the volume
(aside from macronutrient questions). I still think it's a
lot of money and while the ingredient list is a *great* read
I'm not sure that in practice it would be a big win over,
say, something like Eagle Pack Holistic Select.

I'm about to order a bag of Momentum and see how that goes.

It is pricey, but not *that* pricey. I buy small bags of other brands as
mixers, and this is one of them. Also, the pet store has a buy 11 bags, get
one free type of deal, which helps a little. Sticker shock for me came from
Timberwolf Organics.

Petfooddirect currently has a couple of them on sale (Grammy's Pot Pie and
Cowboy Cookout ). 15 pounds at $23, plus 5x 13.2 oz cans and $8.00 off
coupons. Their latest coupon is only 15% off, but that would probably cover
the cost of shipping.

What do you use as a base feed?

Solid Gold WolfKing.

I ran into problems when I decided that Khan needed to be on something with
substantially fewer calories than Canidae, but without crappy ingredients.
This was the one that came closest to fulfilling the requirements. If I
could afford to feed something more calorie dense, I would probably try
Innova/Evo/Barking at the Moon.

I've been waiting a looong time to see if the TimberWolf Organics Elk formul
would come on sale, so we can try it. Hasn't happened yet, and at 12 bucks
for a 4 pound bag, even that is too spendy.

i asked about prices at the petstore the other day. i do the food
orders at work (hill's prescription diets) and they've had two MAJOR
price increases since the big food recall. they cite the need for
increased ingredient testing, etc etc. i was curious whether the other
brands have had similar increases. apparently not.

It's enough of a problem to have been a big topic of
conversation at the sleddog symposium (mushers buy a heck of
a lot of dog food). The main problem is apparently
petroleum prices, which affects everything from ingredients
(petroleum-based fertilizers in non-organic feeds) to
bagging (petroleum-based plastics) to delivery (petroleum-
based, uh, petrol).

That last bit would be my guess, but it's only a guess.
