I hatehatehate going to the dentist, thanks to the asshat pedadontist my mother took me to when I was a kid. Instead of giving you credit for having half a brain and explaining what he was doing and why, he'd put the gas on you and crank it up to sedate you to the point that you couldn't fight back, walk up holding the syringe behind his back and pounce. And he never waited for the novacaine to take effect, he'd just start drilling away, meaning that I felt everything and then went home numb for hours. My mother was not a stupid woman, not over all and in general. She was a pediatric nurse, fergodsakes, so I have no idea why she thought that was an acceptable way to handle things. On top of it, he did a ton of really questionable dental work on my baby teeth. Then we moved from St. Louis to Phoenix. I still remember my new dentist's reaction when I opened my mouth... "Who did this and WHY?!" My current dentist is a saint. Knowing my history, he puts the gas on, does the novacaine, then goes off and works on other patients for a half hour or so, leaving me to enjoy the nitrous and admire the pretty forest mural wallpaper ("Ooh, look at the lovely trees!") for a half hour or so until I'm good and numb. And even so, I'd still rather have a pap smear and a mammogram rather than go to the dentist. |

He yanked a lot of teeth and used a lot of gas. I can still remember "open wiyiyiyiyiyiyiyide". Getting high at a young age. The old fat fart dentist - Dr. Rose - told me to shut up and stop acting like a baby. Almost 40 years later and I'm still anxiety ridden about dental work. Impending childbirth never worried me as much. |

I guess a troll by your definition is any post you disagree with.

: And, in answer to the other poster, posing as a veterinarian, I never "posed" as a veterinarian. I am a practice manager/owner and stated as such. Again, if you have specific questions about the business end of vet med, I'd be happy to answer as it related to our practice. But I won't be fodder for your insults and barbs. I never asked any questions. I have dealt with enough vet offices here in Tucson to KNOW what their business practices are. They primary objective is profit and the animals welfare comes a distant second. Please read my orginal post. |

: Again to the other poster, what "billing" since you all seem to demand full payment immediately? Why do you need someone to bill for you? We let our established clients bill. But not new clients. We've been burned too many times. On the business end, there isn't one company we deal with who lets us pay in installments. So you discrimnate against people on the simple basis that they are new? Rather stupid policy. But many of those people are veterinary school interns. Way too many vets where I am, one reason why they are so hard up for cash. We don't have one. And when we get vet school interns they do not see patients. They cannot practice medicine without a license. Your not in my city then, so my OP may not apply to you. We have a staff of 12. All with college degrees, none are interns. There's a lot to running a practice. But I suspect that this OP wants to hear none of the facts. Your job is not to build your own little kingdom, but to serve animals and prevent suffering. And pay our bills how? Like many people do, on a monthly billed basis. Do all your other debtors ask for payment in advance, or immediately at time of service. I think not. But all the vet practices in my city DEMAND immediate full payment. Quite obvious what their primary interest is. Most of the so-called "Drs." that I've run into lately are more concerned with generating profit .... Dink. This is where our conversation ends. yeah, cuz you can't argue logically. and your probably morally bankrupt as well. Do the animal world a favor and become a stockbroker. |

"Melinda Shore" wrote in message: I thought about doing that, but I'm a nervous patient and want to have an ongoing relationship with the surgeon. I can understand that. I am generally cool with medical procedures, as long as I am confident that my physician knows what he/she is doing. single and it was great to have my mother come out and chauffeur me around (and clean up when I puked up a bunch of blood, which was really, really gross. Thanks, mom!). You could've taken your mom on the trip too. Maybe she wouldn't mind visiting Asian countries? I was at a meeting in Bangkok when one of the attendees (from Ireland) developed appendicitis, and she said that the hospital was like a spa and didn't particularly want to leave. Yup. The hospitals that cater to medical tourists are generally setup like spas, but with top notch physicians and nurses, top of the line equipment and great customer service. Anything you want, you can get. There was an article in the Post a few months ago about American workers being given incentives for travel abroad for major medical procedures (basically, they ended up with no out of pocket expenses of any sort, extended time-off, etc.). The experiences detailed were quite interesting. Suja |
