Default Timberwolf's take on garlic

A few days ago, I emailed them to ask about garlic in their foods. Today
they got back to me with this letter below. So it seems they are not
ignorant to the belief that garlic is bad for dogs, they just don't believe
it.

Jenny,

While we do have garlic in some of our formulas the Lamb, Barley and Apple
does not contain any garlic. None of our formulas contain onions. Garlic has
gotten a bad rap over the past few years due to some misconceptions on the
toxicity of it. It is true that onions are highly poisonous to dogs but
garlic does not contain the same levels of thiosulphate that onions do. You
obviously do not want to feed a full clove of garlic to a dog, but in small
amounts it can be beneficial to your dogs health. Here is a website that has
a little more information on it:

questions feel free to email or give us a call. Thank you.

Garlic so so widely used in dog food that I think that if it
were that toxic there'd be a lot more hemolytic anemia
around. That said, my understanding is that the reason
garlic is used is to make the food more palatable. In turn,
that suggests that the food is otherwise not very tasty,
since manufacturers don't push their costs up just for the
heck of it. I don't like garlic in dog food because for me
it raises questions about quality, not because I think it
will poison my dog.
