Default pale gums, anemia, vomits after drinking water

We are waiting for the blood work to come back.Vet suspects some
internal bleeding. Dog is listless and can hardly walk.No interest in
going out. Tarry stool and very wobbly. 15yr old mix. Xrays show nothing
definitive. All comments welcome. I will get them fastest at
. thankyou. TonyG

........impossible to say without bloodwork, but tarry stools indicate liver
or GI problems. Is this dog on Rimadyl?

......hoping for the best.

I'm really sorry for you and your dog. Internal bleeding sounds likely
unfortunately. What is causing it is something that may be hard to
find. At 15, quality of life is something important to keep in mind.
When making decisions about exploratory options, understand all of the
ramifications.

I hope you get an answer that helps you make clear decisions about
treatment. I've been through something similar with a much younger dog,
just a few months ago, and I know how worried you are.

Was on Rimadyl but was switched to Etogesic last summer or early fall.

Have you stopped it? Apparently it is more likely than other NSAIDs to
cause GI ulceration:

Can you tell them to put a rush on the BW? Must be agonizing to wait
around......does the vet have any inhouse BW capabilities? I'd at least see
if she's anemic.....right this minute.

Default pale gums, anemia, vomits after drinking water/UPDATE

An update so as to help others. Our dog is home now. He is totally off
of asid medicine. Now he seems like a normal dog who is very weak and
tired he sleeps all the time and has not vomited for several days. His
stool is looking better and he is tracking activity when he is awake. He
is interested in food and yesterday started after a stick while outside.
What I really want to impart here is he had a palsy,a twitch that looked
like a seizure, they were constant and we thought he had a neurological
problem. He also stutter stepped and often staggered when moving slowly
using fine motor skill. Since we stopped the anti inflammatory Etol
something those symptoms are gone. We are feeding him cow liver and
turkey with other bland food as directed by our vet.

...........That's good! It may take a while to get the blood values up to
snuff, but he should be getting better by the day. And so other people
know, your dog was getting Etogesic.

...........There are things you can use to help with arthritis such as EFAs
with Vit E, glucosamine, MSM, etc. You might look over the list at
www.dogaware.com Adequan shots are also good, but pricey. I would say that
your dog can't tolerate any more NSAIDs. There are some people who
routinely give stomach protectants along with NSAIDs as they all eventually
can cause problems.

......best of luck to you and your lucky oldster......long may his tail wave!
