Hi all,
I am thinking about getting a Great Dane. No worries......I live in the country and have lots of space. Can anyone tell me anything about the breed? Are they good with horses...children....cats and other dogs? Thanks for your input... Liz |

They are only dangerous to children because of their size. And the tail can clear out an entire endtable. They are beautiful, but don't live too long past 9 or 10 years. They don't require "lots of space." I've heard that some people even have them in apartments! Probably depends on the dog if it's horse or cat safe. You can have the Dane tested for that before adoption. If you like the breed, go for it. www.Petfinder.com has lots of Danes and Dane mixes. -Rich |

Hi Liz,
Thanks for taking the time to research the dane before getting one. If you are looking for a friend and companion, you might want to consider adopting a dane in need of a permanent home. If you are looking for a potential dane to show, there are many aspects to consider. You might want to stop by the Great Dane Lovers Society for some information and join the forum/message board and ask this same question. You can find the main site at: http://www.homepage-host.uni.cc/b/gdls/ And The Message board at: http://danetalkers.uni.cc/ Great Dane Lovers Society "Liz Hillier" wrote in message ... I our opinions, if you go with a reputable breeder for a puppy and screen it and the parents carefully, or if you spend some time with a rescue dog and make sure it's the dog for you, there simply is no better breed.
