Default Sweet older poodles need rescue or will be PTS

I received this email from a friend. Just hoping someone here might be able
to help:

It's Dawn again. I have another bleeding-heart-help-me-rescue-_________
plea for help. This time it's on behalf of two elderly dogs that belonged
to a terminally ill elderly man who has gone to inpatient hospice. The dogs
have been together for 10 years. Maggie the female, a poodle, is 10, spayed
and in good health. Mickey the male, unneutered, also a poodle, is 15 and
needs a pill 2 times a day to prevent seizures. He is seizure-free on the
medication. The age of these dogs, and Mickey's need for pills and being
unneutered make them difficult to place. They are loving friendly dogs and
were loving companions to their owner. In my fantasy world, they will be
placed together and visit their dad in hospice over the holiday. The man
has little time left, and aside from health care workers and one old
friend, he has no one left. His friend had planned to euthanize the dogs
today (I think) but is willing to wait until Saturday or Sunday before they
are taken to be put down.

Please forward this to anyone who might know someone....I'm willing to help
with any initial vet costs if they are necessary.

Thank you.

Dawn

You may also contact me and I'll call or email. The rescue of these dogs
would make a nice final Christmas present for this gentleman, and also for
the dogs, of course.

ugh..paul, where are the dogs?
That poor man shouldn't have to die knowing that his dogs were put down.

I just got the email. My friend lives in Baltimore City. Her email also
stated:

"Hi guys, thought I would forward this on. My friend Dawn drove over to the
house today to get the dogs, but then her partner freaked out and
threatened to leave if she brought them home. They have done so many
rescues in the last few years and their cats are getting really traumatized
by it."

I know I can't help directly, from my experience with Lucky and Muttley.
Maybe there is a Poodle rescue somewhere. I'll also try emailing some
friends, but I didn't have any luck finding a home for Lucky, except
through Defenders of Animal Rights. I don't know if they could help in this
case.

It does seem sad that this guy has had these dogs all this time and now
must live his last moments without their company. If he is still sentient,
it must be agonizing for him to know the dogs are going to be PTS. It's too
bad that the hospice could not keep the dogs there to be with him, and even
care for them after he has passed on. An ideal hospice would have lots of
friendly animals roaming around to provide round the clock companionship
and comfort for people as they prepare to leave their earthly existence.

I thought you would like to hear the happy outcome of this story: From an
email I just received:

"We were able to find a home for the dogs with a woman who lives close to
the hospice and will be taking them over for a visit to their former owner
on Christmas day."

"Thanks to everyone who helped and spent their time and energy in making
this happen. Please know that with a little caring and effort, you have
given a great Christmas gift to animals in need and two people whose lives
have and will be enriched by these dogs."

"Happy holidays to you all!"

"Laurie and Dawn"

Merry Christmas, Indeed...
