Tripe has always been easy to find here (NE Ohio) because it is enjoyed
by a variety of ethnic groups.

.........I can find tripe in WalMart. This is the kind you're thinking of -
called tripas - it's intestines, not the stomach that comes straight from
the slaughterhouse, which no store is allowed to sell to the public.

montana wildhack spoke these words of wisdom

Green tripe is different - it includes stomach contents.

I could have sworn I put "green tripe" in teh Google and didn't see
that little distinction! That's kind of major.

Sorry for the non-sequiteur.

Actually there is bleached tripe, and green tripe is the rinsed but
unbleached, and still stinky, unclean natural version

Granted, that's not as stanky as green
tripe, but at first I found it pretty repellent.

HA! Mackerel is Chanel No. 5 compared to green tripe in a can. This is
Shelly (with the pointy nosed ones)'s comment about it:

"I can't remember what the...oh! Silage, that's what normal tripe smells
like, that's what the local dairy smells like. The canned stuff smelled
like that, only on a hot day x10, and their manure pushing bulldozer is
broken down. Bleh"

But still, if there's no reason for you to feed the stuff
I'm not sure there's much point in acclimating yourself.

I'm pretty convinced that there is no acclimating yourself to the stench.
I'm also equally convinced that I'd rather shoot myself than even attempt to
acclimate myself to the vile-ness that is canned tripe.

An independent high-end pet store in Santa Fe sells it canned.
Haven't tried it on my dogs, however.

Did you promise that you were going to try, like 3 years back?

How about buying small cans of dog food to see if she'll eat those? That
way, it's not a huge commitment in terms of quantity and you can get a large
assortments of protein sources that wouldn't be available to you otherwise.
Maybe get some Natural Balance logs, which even my friend's dog who's meh
about everything goes ga-ga over. I don't know if these are "allowed", but
how about things like plain, non-fat yogurt, cottage cheese or even a little
cheese sprinkled on her food? If you rotated what you feed her, she may be
more interested in eating? I have fed Solid Gold green tripe in a can, and
it smells absolutely vile. The dogs love it, however.

Heh. That's some memory you have! I had to check the archives
on this one!

No, I promised my dogs that I'd LOOK FOR green tripe, but after
reading a bit more about its stench, I didn't actually BUY the stuff.

I don't know if they have forgiven me.

I have a can of tripe that I received as a gift: Tripett Green
Lamb Tripe. I've been meaning to toss it, but now you have me
interested.
