Default Loose dogs, having fun

"tiny dancer" spoke these words of wisdom in
:
Chatting about our dogs used to be enjoyable, informative, and a place to
come to when we are so very *worried* about something to do with one of
them.

Between the stalkers, soc men, and sporges, the other group I am on is
actually more genuinely *friendly* to most people.

You choose to be here. No one stops you about chatting about your dogs, nor
killfiling those who make your life miserable. Killfiles make your life as
comfortable as you want it to be. If you choose to read those who try to
make your life miserable, then it's free choice. It doesn't have to be that
way. Killfiles can bring this group back to a happy relaxed place.

There are established harpies here, and you have identified them by now.
"So quit rising to their bait!"

I'm always amazed by the bitching and moaning about interactions here
(and on other forums). Killfiles are wonderful things. If I want to
ignore someone, I can killfile or simply click "next". I think some
people, and obviously td, actually enjoy and thrive on controversy and
sniping. Why would they continue along that path otherwise?

I don't use my killfile a lot, because I'm a grown up who is capable of
not engaging in a topic I'm not interested in. For those that have
little self-control, they may find that a filter helps them cope.

Why not take good wishes for what it is and move on, instead of
finding things to get offended over?

I do. I just think it's kind of mean to be rude about offering them.
I also sometimes feel a little bombarded by demands to have a happy
whatever. The latter, I realize, is just me, so I let it go. The
former is harder to ignore.

I found that a little sad.

I think we can thank folks like Bill O'Reilly and Bill Donohue for
creating a fake war on Christmas, which has achieved nothing except
to make everyone--your Wegman's cashier included--uncomfortable.

OH, FINE. Throw a bucket of cold water on those warm
feelings I get when a cashier says "Happy holidays!" I'll
bet you think they don't care whether or not I have a nice
day, either. Hmmph.

To top it off, the Harford County Humane Society *and* a local
pediatrician's office have phone #'s one digit off of my
company's, and there's a real estate agent who has the same phone
number as our manager, but with a different MD area code. (Our #
starts with 443, hers with 410).

My mom's had the same phone number since I was in high school. It's
one digit off from the number of a local pharmacy, so she gets
calls--mostly from older folks whose eyesight is presumably not so
good--wanting to know when their "subscriptions" will be ready.

I once got a phone call, not long after moving and getting a new
phone number, from a guy looking for a relative (aunt or grandma? I
don't recall). That was the last number they had for her.
Apparently, she just dropped off the face of the earth. I've always
wondered if he ever found her.

I think I have mentioned it before, but when I first moved to VA from NY, I
wondered what the hell was wrong with people. There were people offering to
help (and not just following you around, keeping an eye on you), asking if
you found everything you needed, and wishing you a nice day. What was their
agenda, exactly?

When we had visitors and we'd go out for a walk, people we
passed always said "Hello" and the visitors would ask if we
knew that person. My mom said "no" and the visitors would
be perplexed. But around here when you're driving and you
pass someone walking you always wave at them and they always
wave at you, and when my mother was visiting she would ask
if I know the person and when I said "no" she'd be
perplexed. [obDogs: the guy way up the road with the little
spaniel who's out walking him a *lot*]

In Virginia I really do think it's a case of being polite,
where polite includes helpful. Alaska is the only place
I've been where I felt like strangers were genuinely
interested in each other.
